Data Centre Tour
The Data Centre
Our private 8000sq ft datacentre is located in Portsmouth, United Kingdom, directly opposite the IBM UK headquarters. The datacentre is divided into 2 main sections. Section 1 houses our dedicated servers, reseller systems and colocation clients. Section 2 houses 95Gbit/sec connectivity to the Verizon global backbone - the world's largest and fastest IP network
Security
The datacentre is monitored 24/7/365 from remote locations in the UK and the USA. Altaire contracts a global team dedicated to maintaining security for all buildings, network and site visits. 24 hour on site security staff can be assigned to accompanied visits. Access to the building is strictly controlled for each site visit - if you are not on the list you are not getting in.
Secure Cabinet Space
Secure colocation space can be provided for 1 server up to multiple racks. Access to rack space is controlled by on-site security and customer defined policies. Altaire colocation customers enjoy the flexibility to define contacts and permissions for their own equipment ensuring security of their own machines located in our facility. Key coded access to individual racks is available.
Power Supply and Backup
Each rack has 2 independent power feeds, fed from 2 diverse feeds from 2 national power companies. Should one or both of these feeds fail multiple battery UPS systems will kick in immediately to retain full system uptime. If mains power is not restored an external diesel powered generator will start providing full continuous power to the building. Spare fuel for the generators is stored on-site and contracts are in place with fuel companies to deliver continuous emergency fuel for a virtually unlimited amount of time. A large on site dummy load enabled us to test the generators on full load each month.
Fire Suppression
The building is equipped with VESDA (very early warning smoke detection apparatus) and further equipment to detect and suppress the threat of fire. Again, systems are monitored on-site by 24-7 staff, and from 2 external network operations centres in the UK and USA.
Climate Control
Multiple air conditioning systems constantly maintain a temperature of 21 degrees Celsius. Drip sensors located below floor monitor for any leaks in the system. Cold air is forced underneath raised flooring into the bottom of each server rack, and vacuumed out of the top providing maximum cooling efficiency. The position of each server rack/apparatus is calculated by a dedicated deployment team to further optimise cooling efficiency.
