Why Altaire has standardised on HP Servers

We have hosted our own dedicated servers since 1999 and here are some of the reasons why we chose to standardise on HP servers:

Performance - The DL380 server is capable of prolonged high-workload performance due to it's excellent chassis and intelligent cooling.
Management - Lights out/central management software/even server upgrades are possible without restarting the server.

What experience has taught us:

Use the best hardware you can. Clone servers/desktop machines and PC tower machines are NOT good servers. If you want your web site to be available 24/7/365 you firstly need to choose hardware which was designed from the ground up to do so. No desktop or clone machine is ideally suited to this.
Redundancy Redundancy Redundancy - Components fail, fact. Hard drives in any server are the single most likely cause of fault, this is why Altaire does not offer any server with only 1 hard drive (and why would you want a server that is highly likely to fail). Make sure you have as few single points of failure as possible.
Hosting companies who appear to offer an unbelievable deal on unlimited bandwidth/27 processors for £50 etc, are generally telling porkies/are offering inferior hardware in an inferior datacentre.
